Have you been recently diagnosed with cancer? Are you undergoing treatment or perhaps you know someone – a family member or friend – with cancer? A cancer diagnosis can bring with it fear, isolation, anger, and an overwhelming need for information about treatment options, health insurance, and how to manage the daily routine of life. Cancer doesn’t just change the life of the individual diagnosed, but also the lives of those around them.
Since 2007, the Institute of Medicine has reported that comprehensive medical care of cancer patients must include emotional and social support for the patient and family as well as information on cancer prognosis, treatment benefits and financial costs of treatment. Gilda’s Club Madison complements medical treatment by providing support and education for the cancer patient and their family to help them learn to live with cancer – whatever the outcome.
